Slàinte Mhath Receives "Highest Praise" in the U.K. Slainte Mhath has just returned from England and Scotland completing their first tour of the United Kingdom, consisting of twenty-two dates. They performed at some of the largest festivals and some of the smallest halls - all having the same raging support from the audience. The tour started with the legendary Celtic Hebridean Festival. "(Audience feedback was that) the best band of the festival was Slainte Mhath ... they played a blinder, as they say over here." Caroline MacLennan, Artistic Director The Cambridge Folk Festival was a highlight not only did the attendance top 10,000 - the band shared the stage with Suzanne Vega and legendary Rolling Stones bassist Bill Wyman's Rhythm Kings'! Some of the highest praise came from Speyfest - a festival in Fochabers now in its 5th year. "The highest praise was reserved for Slainte Mhath who generated the most charged atmosphere of the weekend with their closing set on Saturday night." Gerard Burke, Fochabers Daily News Ruth Lanbourne, spokesman for the organising committee said: "I have never heard a band finish as well as they did. The crowd was yelling for more and more and the whole floor was bouncing as they played. The reception they got was incredible." These performaces were in-conjunction with Greentrax Records releasing their self-titled album, June 1 2001. The BBC's Celtic Roots web site followed their tour on-line with a travel diary - the band sent in photos and stories of each day's events. Hits on the Slainte Mhath page of the Celtic Roots site were particularly high. The diaries allowed their fans to "experience" the tour with them - getting a little glimpse of life on the road.
